Coronavirus and Housekeeping | Easyway Maid Service

April 30, 2020

Quite a lot has changed over the last couple months. Austin has lockdown orders from Governor Abbott, and the city has instituted mask policies when in public. A lot of people are very concerned and unsure of how to protect themselves.

We have been hit pretty hard and seen an unprecedented drop-off in clients, but our opinion on this may surprise you.

Here’s what you should know about home cleaning and maid services according to the current COVID-19 situation on April 30th.

How safe is it to hire a maid?

Well, it’s about as safe as having a couple friends over to your home. Which, as you know, has been prohibited by the stay-at-home order.

While home sanitation has been deemed an essential service, we would still urge you to exercise caution.

While it is true that you are extremely unlikely to contract or even encounter Coronavirus around an Easyway Maid Service cleaning team, it still increases your risk just as much as being around any other person.

Maids are not especially likely to have the virus, as they encounter few people in their day-to-day work. A more likely risk would be inviting over someone who works in a grocery store, or does customer service in an essential store, as they encounter a higher volume of people.

Essentially, the more people someone comes into contact with on a regular basis, the more likely they are to contact COVID-19.

How can I protect myself?

The most important thing to remember is that you need to shield elderly people (65+) and people with existing and immune-system-compromising medical conditions such as diabetes or asthma.

If you know that your household contains an older or sick person, we strongly recommend putting your cleaning service on pause for the time being.

If everyone in your home is relatively young and healthy, you are much safer. However, use your discretion. We are currently waiving all late cancellation fees for sickness or Coronavirus-related concerns, in the interest of customer and cleaner safety.

Will cleaning my home prevent infection?

Maybe it will help, but probably not. While sanitizing surfaces is a practice currently recommended by the CDC, a once-a-week cleaning service is unlikely to have any noticeable benefit, when it comes to avoiding COVID-19.

There are a million other reasons why it’s a great idea to have a maid service right now, but that is for another time. Generally speaking, cleaning your home will not reduce your risk of getting the virus by a significant amount.

Alternatives to using a maid service

If you are averse to having strangers in your home at this time, we completely understand.

Now is a better time than ever to do some spring cleaning, or develop a cleaning routine that you cycle each month.

You will feel much, much better if you don’t live in squalor. Because of the quarantine orders, it is now more important than ever to take care of your mental health. A big part of that is keeping a clean and organized space.

We are always happy to help you with that over here, but we understand if you’d rather do it yourself at the moment!

Stay safe,

Easyway Maid Service
