The Top 5 Spring Cleaning Tips | Easyway Maid Service

Why everyone cleans during springtime

After the chaos of the holidays: parties, guests, kids, pets – all leaving a mess around your home, many people find themselves with an especially unkempt living space. When you combine that with the hustle and bustle of the new year, most don’t feel like they have the time to tackle the hard work of scrubbing off the muck.

There are a couple ways homeowners and renters go about taking care of this problem:

Some choose to hire a professional cleaning service (we suggest going local if you do).

Some people choose to handle the cleaning themselves.

Some people choose to ignore it and deal with the mess later (our least favorite of the options).

While the easiest and most efficient way will always be hiring a maid service to do the hard work for you, this article is aimed at you go-getters who want to get on your hands and knees and scrub your place the old-fashioned way.

Here are the Easyway Maid Service top 7 spring cleaning tips:

1. Get yourself some kneepads

You may feel silly walking around at home with kneepads on, but your joints will thank you when you’re scrubbing baseboards.

Especially if you’re the type of person who cleans your home frequently, the wear and tear on your knees will slowly add up and give you aches and pains you could have avoided.

It’s a small detail, but it can make all the difference in the world. You’re much more likely to clean your home if you don’t associate house cleaning with physical pain.

Any kind of kneepads will do: you can always order them off Amazon or stop by any skate shop and get a cheap pair. Pretty much any kind will do, this is home cleaning, not the X Games.

2. Use a magic eraser or melamine sponges

Magic Erasers are a specific brand of melamine sponge, but you can use either one. We have a detailed article on deciding between Magic Erasers and melamine sponges here.

Both of them are a godsend for cleaning your home. They’re disposable, so you don’t need to hang on to any nasty looking, mold-filled sponges for re-use, and they can clean just about any surface.

They have a tendency to disintegrate as you use them, this is completely normal, and gives you a built in timer so you know when it’s time to grab a new one. Use ’em until they disappear!

We highly recommend using melamine sponges for baseboards, bathtubs, sinks, faucets, and shower tiles.

3. Clean your baseboards with a sock on a toilet wand

Grab an old sock from your drawer, and douse in a 50/50 solution of white wine vinegar + water. Then take an (unused, of course) disposable toilet wand, and stretch the sock over it.

Using this method, you can scrub your baseboards with a vinegar-based solution without ever having to bend over!

You can dip the sock back in the vinegar solution as needed. Wham! Clean baseboards with minimal hassle.

4. Use your vacuum extension to suck up cobwebs

Yep, even the corners of your ceilings need cleaning too! This isn’t the kind of thing you need to do often, but it’s perfect for spring cleaning.

Just attach the long extension on your vacuum, and go around the corners of the rooms. Cobwebs can build up here if you clean infrequently, but there’s no reason to make it harder than it needs to be!

This technique can be used anywhere that cobwebs collect. It’s a quick fix to a problem you’ve probably never thought about before.

This is one of those little things that improves the overall look of your house. Your brain gets used to what you see every day, and you actually become blind to a lot of the mess that accumulates slowly around your home.

Having a clean place is critical for productivity and feeling calm and focused. This detail can make a difference.

5. Focus on the lesser-cleaned areas of your home

Spring is the time to handle all the little aspects of home cleaning that you don’t normally take care of during the year.

These are often the same areas cited in our blog post on the areas most commonly missed by maid services.

Things like dusting your curtains and blinds are often forgotten, because you can’t actually see how dirty they are until it’s already really bad.

The same applies to those windowsills. They may often be covered by your blinds and obscured from view. Fortunately, they are one of the easiest things to clean.

This is also the time to handle the nasty build up of pet hair, if you have furry friends around. We know you don’t wanna do. No one does. But someone has to take care of that pile of fur that could be used to reconstitute a whole second dog čśë

Conclusion

There’s no better time than right now to do some spring cleaning. Instead of saying “tomorrow” for a tomorrow that never comes, put down that laptop/phone and get something done today! We promise you’ll feel better.
