Bed and Mattress Maintenance Tips | Easyway Maid Service

Your bed is the most important piece of furniture in your entire home; sleep is critical to physical and mental health. There are a few important ways you can take care of your pillows and mattress that will make your life a little easier, and here they are:

Mattress and pillow covers

Some people are sweaty sleepers – you know who you are, and you know the challenges that come with it. Unfortunately, excessive sweating while you sleep will eventually seep into and discolor your mattress (ick!).

Additionally, if you ever eat on your bed, or let the pets up, you run a high risk of eventually spilling something.

Mattress covers are usually composed of a plastic or non-porous material, with a softer fuzzy side on top. The plastic sheet will prevent any spills from reaching your actual mattress, and the fuzzy side will make it so you can’t even tell there’s anything under your sheets.

Pillow covers work the same way. In both cases, you can easily strip these off your bed and wash them, making it so your mattress and pillows literally never get dirty.

This will prevent dust mites, which can cause allergies and all types of congestion. These covers are cheap, there’s no reason not to do it!

Always have 2 sets of sheets

This one is for the die-hard bachelors and bachelorettes out there. Yes, we know money is tight. But, the fact of the matter is you are MUCH more likely to regularly put your sheets in the laundry if you have a back up pair you can slip on right away.

Plus, when the dog has an accident in the middle of the night, you will be extremely grateful you don’t need to wait for the soil sheets to dry after you wash them.

Get a memory foam mattress topper

The salespeople at the mattress store will always try to foist their most expensive product on you. But, here’s a little secret they don’t want you to know:

You can buy a cheap, low grade mattress and put a fancy memory foam topper on it.

You won’t even notice the difference. There is really no reason to buy an expensive mattress when your topper controls the way your bed feels. Save on the mattress, go big on the topper.

Get high thread count sheets

Check the thread count when you buy your sheets. 400-500 will get you the softest possible feel. Beyond 500 is mostly a waste of time, you won’t notice the difference.

That perfect 500 thread count sheet though… you’ll never want to get out of bed.

Wash/swap your pillow cases every 2-3 days

This is maybe the fastest known way to improve your complexion. If you have pimples and blackheads, there’s a good chance your oily, dirty pillow cases are contributing to the problem.

Swap them out every 2-3 days, and within a month you’ll notice the difference. All the facial care products in the world won’t help if you’re using the same pillow case for 2 weeks, and it’s collecting oils off your face the whole time!

Finishing thoughts

These purchases might seem like a big deal at the time, but they can save you a lot of headache in the long run. Take care of your sleeping space!
